Patty Reece

My husband and I own a farm in Missouri. We were initially enchanted with the land itself: the timber, the marsh, the meadow, the wildlife, the remoteness. It was a special refuge for us from our weekday lives.

As we began to spend more and more time in the country, we became acquainted with the neighbors, at first through farming activities and hog roasts, and then at weddings and funerals. We observed how the community cared for each other. We observed the gentle grace with which they led their lives. We felt they were a reflection of the land and that the land reflected them as well.

This body of work, created over the last several years, seeks to show the connection and interdependence of the land and its people, the people and their land, and the people and each other.

I would like to express my gratitiude to my friends in the Taberville community who have embraced this project and graciously give of their time for interviews and photographs.
